4 killed, 12 injured in rocket attacks in Myanmar's Pyin Oo Lwin

YANGON, April 15 (Xinhua) -- Four people were killed and 12 others injured in rocket attacks in Pyin Oo Lwin of central Myanmar's Mandalay region on Sunday night, the Information Team of Myanmar's State Administration Council reported on Monday.

The attacks occurred on Sunday night in Pyin Oo Lwin town of Mandalay region where assailants launched 11 rockets targeting the town. The strikes hit several places, including the orthopedic ward of Pyin Oo Lwin General Hospital, a monastery and a hotel, the information team said.

Due to the attacks that hit the monastery, three people, including two Buddhist monks, were killed, and one person sustained injuries. Additionally, a local resident from a ward in Pyin Oo Lwin was also killed in the assaults on Sunday night, it said.

Due to the attacks that hit Pyin Oo Lwin General Hospital, a total of 11 people, including children, patients and staff members, were injured. They are currently receiving medical treatment, the report said.

The report added that the attacks on non-military targets, which occurred during the traditional Thingyan water festival, are malicious acts perpetrated by terrorists with the intention of disrupting public peace and stability.

Security forces were tightening security to locate and apprehend the perpetrators, the information team said. Enditem
