BAGHDAD, April 15 (Xinhua) -- Six policemen were killed in a car accident on Monday in Iraq's western province of Anbar, a traffic police said.

Two cars collided in the morning on the main road linking the city of Heet to the town of al-Baghdadi, west of the provincial capital Ramadi, some 100 km west of Baghdad, killing six policemen and injuring three others, said Ahmed Saad, head of Heet's traffic police directorate.

He added that high speed and failure to comply with traffic regulations and signals caused the tragic accident.

More than 7,000 traffic accidents occurred in 2023 in Iraq, mainly due to deteriorating road conditions, inadequate traffic signals and safety barriers, as well as negligence of traffic rules, according to the Iraqi High Commission for Human Rights. Enditem
