CAIRO, April 15 (Xinhua) -- Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry and UN Senior Humanitarian and Reconstruction Coordinator for Gaza Sigrid Kaag on Monday discussed in the Egyptian capital Cairo ways to facilitate the delivery of humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip.

The Egyptian Foreign Ministry said in a statement that Shoukry stressed the legal and humanitarian responsibility of the international parties to ensure the implementation of the United Nations Security Council Resolution 2720, as well as all relevant Security Council and General Assembly resolutions concerning the situation in Gaza.

Shoukry urged for swift and serious action to deal with the dire humanitarian crisis in the besieged enclave by enforcing an immediate and permanent ceasefire and ensuring the intensive and safe delivery of aid, said the statement.

The Egyptian top diplomat also called for the opening of all land crossings between Israel and the strip to increase the flow of aid, according to the statement.

Kaag expressed her commitment to continuing coordination with the Egyptian side in fulfilling her task, hailing the pivotal role of Egypt in containing the humanitarian repercussions on Gaza.

The two sides also stressed the importance of providing necessary protection for the international relief teams operating in the besieged enclave. Enditem
