TOKYO -- Japan is prepared to take all necessary steps to counter excessive currency moves, Finance Minister Shunichi Suzuki said Tuesday, as the yen tumbled past 154 against the U.S. dollar to a 34-year low.

The U.S. dollar remained strong in the lower 154 yen range early Tuesday in Tokyo after hitting a fresh new high overnight in New York for the first time in nearly 34 years. (Japan-Yen-Depreciation)

HONG KONG -- Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) has retained its position as the world's busiest cargo airport in 2023 in terms of total cargo volume, the 13th time since 2010, provisional figures released by Airports Council International showed on Monday.

Such an honor testifies to the airport's excellent efficiency and world-class freight transport services, which underpin its leading position in a challenging environment, said Jack So, chair of the Airport Authority Hong Kong. (Hong Kong-Air Freight)

COLOMBO -- Sri Lanka Purchasing Managers' Index for Manufacturing (PMI-Manufacturing) for March 2024 recorded the highest values recorded in three years, the latest data by the Central Bank of Sri Lanka (CBSL) shows.

PMI-Manufacturing recorded an index value of 62.5 in March, compared to 56 in February. The CBSL said all sub-indices expanded and this was mainly due to the seasonal demand. April is a month of several important festivals in Sri Lanka. (Sri Lanka-PMI)

TASHKENT -- The World Bank expects Uzbekistan's economy to grow by 5.3 percent in 2024, according to the Uzbek media.

The figure was presented in one of the bank's economy reports covering Europe and Central Asia. The figure slightly decreased as opposed to the forecast in the bank's report in January when the indicator was estimated at 5.5 percent. (Uzbekistan-GDP Growth) Enditem
