TOKYO -- An earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 6.4 struck off the west coast of Japan's Shikoku island on Wednesday night, a weather agency said.

The temblor occurred at 11:14 p.m. local time, measuring lower 6 on the Japanese seismic intensity scale of 7 in parts of Ehime and Kochi prefectures, said the Japan Meteorological Agency. (Japan-Earthquake)

AUCKLAND, New Zealand -- The direct flights between China's Chengdu and Auckland of New Zealand officially resumed on Wednesday as a Sichuan Airlines' aircraft carrying over 200 Chinese tourists landed at the Auckland International Airport.

The services had been suspended for more than four years due to the COVID-19 pandemic travel restrictions. The Chinese tourists were welcome by a special ceremony featured with traditional Maori dance and singing at the airport on Wednesday afternoon. (NZ-China-Flights)

ISLAMABAD -- Heavy rains and lightning caused havoc in different areas of Pakistan causing 71 deaths and injuries to 67 others since Saturday, an official told Xinhua Wednesday.

An official from the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) said that the northwest Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province was the worst-hit region where 32 people lost their lives in different incidents, including roof collapse and lightning incidents. (Pakistan-Rain)
