BERLIN, April 17 (Xinhua) -- The 30th edition of the aviation trade fair AERO took off on Wednesday at Lake Constance in southern Germany, focusing on themes such as sustainability and unmanned flight.

More than 680 exhibitors from 36 nations will present their innovations at the four-day fair. On Saturday, the latest sustainable electric aircraft and drones will be demonstrated in an air show.

Excluding commercial air transport, the deliveries of all other civil aviation aircraft increased by 3.6 percent year-on-year to reach 27.8 billion U.S. dollars last year, reported the General Aviation Manufacturers Association (GAMA).

"Aviation has proven to be extremely resilient in recent years and is currently experiencing an upswing," said Tobias Bretzel, AERO show director, adding that the industry is "preparing for the challenges of the future by driving forward technologies that enable low-emission or emission-free flying."

In addition to drones, gliders and helicopters, AERO 2024 will also feature business jets from major manufacturers such as Cessna and Bombardier. These aircraft serve humanitarian as well as business purposes. Enditem
