KUALA LUMPUR, April 18 (Xinhua) -- Ant Group, a leading provider of financial services technology, will set up a new digital business center in Malaysia aimed at tapping local talent to drive its global businesses, the company has said.

As part of the move, 500 local jobs will be created in the first year, with the majority of roles created being tech-focused, aligning with the company's vision of using technology and innovation to accelerate global commerce and inclusion, the company said in a statement.

"The company will commit dedicated resources to develop and nurture these tech talents through comprehensive training, mentorship and exposure to its global businesses," it said.

Ant International President Douglas Feagin said tech and innovation are at the heart of Ant International and Malaysia, with its friendly policies towards promoting tech skills development offering significant opportunities for growth.

The group will also work closely with the Malaysian Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC), the lead agency of digital transformation in Malaysia as part of its efforts to expand and strengthen its presence in the country.

MDEC chief executive officer Mahadhir Aziz said such cooperation will create more jobs and investment opportunities and position Malaysia as a regional digital hub.

"The opening of the new digital business center plays an important role for the local tech talents to thrive," he said.

Ant International is an affiliate of Ant Group, which traces its roots back to Alipay since 2004 and is one of the world's leading open Internet platforms.

Present in Malaysia since 2014, Ant International has since collaborated with local partners in promoting a vibrant fintech community, benefitting Malaysians with more convenient digital payments, while also supporting digital inclusion and creating economic opportunities for local businesses.
