TEHRAN, April 18 (Xinhua) -- Six people were killed and another injured in a fire at a construction site east of the Iranian capital Tehran on Thursday, Iran's IRIB news agency reported.

The fire incident was reported at 13:02 local time (0932 GMT), and firefighters were immediately sent to the scene, the IRIB quoted spokesman of the Tehran Fire Department Jalal Maleki as saying.

He added that the fire had erupted for an unidentified reason in one of the rooms at the construction site where workers used to rest, noting that the six workers who lost their lives in the blaze were foreign nationals.

Maleki said the worker who had been injured in the incident was transferred to the hospital, stressing that investigations were underway to identify the cause. Enditem
