TEHRAN -- Iran's air defense systems shot down several "flying objects" near the central city of Isfahan on Friday, according to the semi-official Fars news agency.

The report comes a few hours after explosions were heard in the city of Qahjavarestan, close to Isfahan's International Airport and an air force base. (Iran-Israel-Conflict)

HONIARA -- Solomon Islands' Prime Minister Manasseh Sogavare has secured his re-election as a member of parliament, national broadcaster SIBC reported on Friday.

NAIROBI -- Heavy rains and subsequent flash floods have killed at least 32 people and displaced 40,265 others across Kenya, the United Nations humanitarian agency said on Friday.

DAMASCUS -- In the early hours of Friday, the Israeli military launched a series of airstrikes targeting Syrian air defense sites in the southern region, the Syrian Defense Ministry said in a statement.

The airstrikes started at approximately 2:55 a.m. local time on Friday (2355 GMT Thursday) from northern Israel and aimed at air defense installations in southern Syria, it said.
