DODOMA, April 19 (Xinhua) -- The Tanzanian government has set aside 136.2 billion Tanzanian shillings (about 52.6 million U.S. dollars) for the renovation of infrastructure, including roads and bridges, damaged by the ongoing heavy rains, an official told the parliament on Friday.

Deputy Minister of Finance Hamad Chande said the funds will be allocated to the Tanzania Rural and Urban Roads Agency and the Tanzania National Roads Agency during the 2024/2025 financial year.

Chande made the remarks while responding to members of parliament who asked the government to explain the measures it was taking to repair roads and bridges damaged by the rains in most parts of the country.

"The government is continuing to carry out a nationwide assessment to determine the extent of damage to roads and bridges caused by the rains," he told the House in the national capital of Dodoma. Enditem
