RAMALLAH, April 19 (Xinhua) -- A Palestinian was killed by the Israeli army in the Nour Shams Palestinian refugee camp, east of the city of Tulkarm in the West Bank, Palestinian and Israeli sources said Friday.

Palestinian medical sources told Xinhua that Salim Ghannam, 30, was killed after being shot by the Israeli army, adding that two others were moderately injured.

On Thursday night, Israeli forces, accompanied by military bulldozers, conducted a raid on the camp and enforced a stringent siege, causing damage to main streets and infrastructure.

Security sources told Xinhua that the military operation lasted for 17 hours, during which Israeli forces arrested six Palestinian youths and targeted a group of journalists covering the operation.

Local sources and eyewitnesses reported clashes between the army and Palestinian gunmen, along with the sound of explosions caused by homemade explosive devices.

The Israeli public radio reported that a reserve officer and a soldier were moderately injured during the operation, while two other soldiers were lightly injured.

Since the Oct. 7 attacks, hundreds of Palestinians have been detained in raids in the West Bank, which Israeli officials describe as counterterrorism operations against Hamas and an extension of the war. Enditem
