KABUL, April 21 (Xinhua) -- The Afghan caretaker government has prevented the smuggling of more than 1,400 pieces of cultural relics abroad within the past two years, an official has said.
"Since the establishment of the Islamic Emirate, the Ministry of Information and Culture has been able to prevent the smuggling of 1,460 pieces of antiquities in collaboration with security and intelligence agencies," local media TOLOnews quoted Khubaib Ghufran, spokesperson for the Ministry of Information and Culture, as saying on Saturday.
Most of these relics have been discovered in Kabul, Nangarhar, Baghlan, and Jawzjan provinces of the country, said Ghufran, adding that the artifacts belong to periods including the Stone Age and Kushan Empire..
According to the ministry, more than 60,000 ancient artifacts belonging to different eras have been registered and put on display at the Afghanistan National Museum in Kabul. Enditem
