ADEN, Yemen, April 21 (Xinhua) -- Heavy rains and floods have led to the deaths of four people and affected over 3,000 families of internally displaced persons in Yemen, officials said on Sunday.

Yemeni health authority in Hadramout province reported that four individuals died when their vehicle was swept away by floodwaters in Ayeen Valley. The region has experienced continuous heavy rainfall for five days, causing significant damage to property and infrastructure.

The executive unit for internally displaced persons camps stated that the extreme weather has impacted thousands of families across several provinces. A statement on the unit's official website detailed the destruction of shelters and material losses due to the floods.

Government sources noted that an atmospheric depression in the provinces of Hadramout, Dhalea, Jawf, Shabwa, and Abyan has led to severe flooding, with the camps for displaced persons suffering extensive damage.

The ongoing conflict in Yemen, which has lasted over nine years, has weakened the government's ability to respond to such climate-related emergencies, raising concerns about the potential for further casualties and destruction. Enditem
