"Civil War" tops North American box office for second weekend in a row

LOS ANGELES, April 21 (Xinhua) -- "Civil War," a dystopian war film, took the top spot at the North American box office for the second weekend in a row with an estimated three-day cume of 11.1 million U.S. dollars, showed figures from the measurement firm Comscore on Sunday.

The film, theatrically released by indie studio A24, has grossed 44.88 million dollars in North America through Sunday.

Set in a near future, the film follows a group of reporters who travel across the United States during a rapidly escalating second American civil war, which has engulfed the nation.

The film, written and directed by Alex Garland, stars Kirsten Dunst, Wagner Moura, Cailee Spaeny, Nick Offerman and Jesse Plemons.

Universal's horror film "Abigail" opened in the second spot with 10.2 million dollars.

Rounded out the top 3, Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures' monster film "Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire" generated 9.45 million dollars on its fourth weekend for a North American cume of 171.6 million dollars. The film has grossed 485.2 million dollars worldwide so far. Enditem
