KUWAIT CITY, April 22 (Xinhua) -- Emir of Kuwait, Sheikh Mishal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, issued a decree on Sunday appointing Prime Minister-designate, Sheikh Ahmad Abdullah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, as his deputy "during his absences from the country," according to Kuwait's official media.

The Kuwait News Agency reported that this measure shall continue until the appointment of the Crown Prince.

Following the issuance of the Emiri decree, the Emir of Kuwait received Sheikh Ahmad Abdullah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah at Bayan Palace, where the latter took the constitutional oath on the occasion of his appointment as deputy to the Emir, in the presence of senior officials from the Emiri Diwan, said the report.

A Kuwaiti Emiri decree was issued on April 15, appointing Sheikh Ahmad Abdullah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah as the prime minister of Kuwait and authorizing him to nominate new cabinet members, it said.

The appointment follows acceptance by the Kuwaiti Emir of the resignation of former Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammad Sabah Al-Salem Al-Sabah on April 7, who submitted his cabinet's resignation on April 6 following election of a new parliament on April 4. Enditem
