RIO DE JANEIRO, April 21 (Xinhua) -- Botafogo climbed to third in Brazil's Serie A standings after cruising to a 5-1 home victory over Juventude on Sunday.

Junior Santos and Tiquinho Soares gave the host a 2-0 lead inside the first 10 minutes at Rio's Olympic stadium.

The visitor's hopes of a comeback were all but dashed in the 38th minute when Lucas Freitas was shown a red card for a second bad challenge.

Botafogo continued to assert its dominance after halftime as Danilo Barbosa, Jefferson Savarino and Jacob Montes put the result beyond doubt.

Danilo Boza reduced the deficit with an 85th-minute strike, but it was too little and too late as Juventus was consigned to its first loss of the season.

Botafogo now has two wins from its first three games of the campaign while Juventude has four points.

Elsewhere, Sao Paulo won 3-0 at Atletico Goianiense, Paranaense prevailed 1-0 at home to Internacional, and Bahia drew 2-2 at Vitoria. Enditem
