GAZA -- Hamas said on Monday that Israel was preventing a ceasefire agreement in the Gaza Strip.

Taher Al-Nono, an advisor to Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh, told Xinhua that the biggest obstacle hindering an agreement with Israel was Israel's "refusal to return the displaced to their places of residence in the northern Gaza Strip and to a complete ceasefire." (Palestine-Israel-Truce)

JERUSALEM -- Aharon Haliva, head of Israel's Military Intelligence Directorate, has requested to resign, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said in a statement on Monday.

According to the statement, Haliva's decision was made following his "leadership responsibility" over Hamas' unexpected attack on southern Israel on Oct. 7, 2023, which killed around 1,200 Israelis. (Israel-Hamas-Resignation)

GAZA -- Israel was preparing to expand a "humanitarian zone" in the Gaza Strip in preparation for a possible attack on the border city of Rafah, Hebrew Public Radio reported Monday.

The radio said that the new humanitarian zone will extend from the southern town of Al-Mawasi along the coastal strip to the outskirts of Deir al-Balah in the central Gaza Strip and will be able to accommodate about one million displaced people. (Palestine-Israel-Attacks)

TEHRAN -- Iran's Foreign Ministry Spokesman Nasser Kanaani on Monday warned that his country will make a "harsher and more decisive" response should Israel make another mistake.

He made the remarks at a weekly press conference in the capital Tehran while commenting on Iran's recent massive retaliatory military operation against Israel, which was carried out in response to a deadly Israeli strike on April 1 against the Iranian consulate in Syria.
