QUITO, April 23 (Xinhua) -- Argentine manager Ariel Holan has been appointed head coach of Barcelona SC for the rest of the 2024 season, the Ecuadorian club said on Tuesday.
The 63-year-old replaces Uruguayan Diego Lopez, who was sacked last Friday after a meager run of results.
"[Ariel] and his backroom staff will arrive this weekend with a view to start working next Monday [April 29]," Barcelona SC said in a statement.
Holan has been out of work since parting ways with Chile's Universidad Catolica last July.
His managerial career has also included spells with Argentina's Independiente, Brazilian giants Santos and Mexican side Leon.
Barcelona SC are currently sixth in Ecuador's 16-team top flight standings with four wins from seven games. In the Copa Libertadores - South America's premier club competition - the Guayaquil-based club has two draws from two group matches so far. Enditem
