585 killed, over 1,500 injured in road accidents in Myanmar in Q1

YANGON, April 23 (Xinhua) -- A total of 585 people were killed and 1,556 people injured in 1,105 road accidents in Myanmar in the first quarter of 2024, according to the Road Transport Administration Department (RTAD) on Tuesday.

The figures recorded between January and March this year were down, compared to 674 deaths and 1,711 injuries in 1,263 traffic accidents reported in the same period of 2023, the RTAD's figures showed.

During the period, Yangon Region reported the highest number of deaths from road accidents at 102, followed by Mandalay Region with 87 deaths and Shan State with 81 respectively, the RTAD data showed.

Myanmar's capital Nay Pyi Taw recorded 36 road accidents during the period, killing 27 people and injuring 48 others, the figures showed.

In the whole year of 2023, a total of 2,422 people were killed with 6,583 others injured in 4,772 traffic accidents in the Southeast Asian country, according to the official data. Enditem
