GABORONE, April 23 (Xinhua) -- Health authorities in Botswana have applauded Boitekanelo College, one of the country's learning institutions, for achieving accreditation from the World Federation of Occupational Therapists (WFOT).

Assistant Minister of Health Sethomo Lelatisitswe said on Monday that the accomplishment demonstrates Boitekanelo College's commitment to meeting global standards of excellence in occupational therapy education.

"This alignment helps to bridge the skills gap by equipping students with the knowledge, skills, and competencies needed to excel in a rapidly evolving healthcare landscape," said Lelatisitswe, adding that Boitekanelo College aims to produce world-class professionals who meet the highest standards of excellence.

He said the accreditation provides assurance that students are industry-ready to meet the demands of the profession and make meaningful contributions to the health and well-being of patients, not only in Botswana but internationally as well.

"Indeed, Botswana is also on the trajectory to export skilled manpower. Furthermore, this international accreditation opens doors to collaborations and partnership opportunities with other accredited institutions, both nationally and internationally," Lelatisitswe added.

To date, Botswana has a total of 39 occupational therapists in practice, in both public and private hospitals, and only a few of these are clinicians in non-governmental organizations and health insurance. Enditem
