TOKYO, April 23 (Xinhua) -- A man was injured and taken to hospital on Tuesday after a towering cherry blossom tree on Tuesday fell on him on the bustling Sannenzaka slope in the western Japanese city of Kyoto.

The incident took place around 11:45 a.m. local time at one of Kyoto's busiest tourist areas located not far from the renowned Kiyomizudera Temple, when an emergency call reported that a male tourist was trapped under a cherry blossom tree that had fallen across the stone-paved staircase, according to local authorities.

The 62-year-old victim had difficulty walking and was taken to a nearby hospital.

According to local media reports, the fallen cherry blossom tree, approximately 9.1 meters high and 40 centimeters in diameter, was located on private land. Enditem
