KAMPALA, April 25 (Xinhua) -- Uganda's cricket team will pitch camp and intensify their training program in Sri Lanka ahead of the International Cricket Council (ICC) T20 Men's World Cup.

The team is expected to travel to Sri Lanka on April 25 where they will also play six international friendlies.

Abhay Sharma, the newly-appointed head coach from India, told Xinhua on Thursday that he was very excited that the programme to train in Sri Lanka was already in the pipeline before he had arrived in Uganda.

"I am very happy that the team will have the opportunity to travel to a high cricket playing nation like Sri Lanka to camp and also have a couple of friendly matches," added Sharma.

The new coach added that although he will not put the team under a lot of pressure, he will be eager to make a few changes on certain aspects like game strategy.

Uganda is placed in Group C alongside Afghanistan, Papua New Guinea, the West Indies and New Zealand for the ICC T20 World Cup slated for June 1 to 29 in the West Indies and the United States.

Senior player Roger Mukasa told Xinhua that they are aware that the World Cup will be very competitive.

"Because of the expectations we are also determined to keep working hard so that we impress in our first appearance on the big stage," added Mukasa. Enditem
