ISLAMABAD, April 25 (Xinhua) -- Three terrorists were killed in an operation by security forces in Pakistan's northwest Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, the country's military said in a statement on Thursday.

The incident happened in the Khyber district of the province on the night of Wednesday till the wee hours of Thursday morning when the security forces conducted the operation by acting on an intelligence tip-off regarding the terrorists' presence in the area, the military's media wing Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said in the statement.

During the conduct of the operation, an intense fire exchange took place between the troops and the terrorists, as a result of which the three terrorists were killed.

"Weapons and ammunition were also recovered from the killed terrorists, who remained actively involved in numerous terrorist activities in the area," the statement added.

A clearance operation is being carried out to eliminate any other terrorists found in the area, the ISPR said. Enditem
