MOGADISHU, April 25 (Xinhua) -- The United Nations Support Office in Somalia (UNSOS) and the UN Department of Operational Support (DOS) ended a three-day meeting in Mogadishu, the capital of Somalia, by reiterating their commitment to facilitating a smooth transition to ensure lasting peace and security in the country.

The meeting, which ended on Wednesday evening, saw the UN officials engage with partners on best practices and lessons learnt of the operational partnership in Somalia, according to an UNSOS statement.

"We have been able to hear some very positive responses from the partners, including how over time UNSOS has evolved to learn from innovative practices and better integrate with ATMIS (African Union Transition Mission in Somalia) and the Somali Security Forces (SSF) for UNSOS to provide support in a more responsive and timely manner," said DOS Chief of Partnership Service Vanessa Kent.

During the meeting, participants stressed the importance of joint planning and closer collaboration to enable a smooth security transition.

They also discussed how practices and processes can be further streamlined to ensure DOS and UNSOS can stay fit for purpose as they support ATMIS and the SSF during the security transition.

Head of UNSOS Aisa Kacyira Kirabo reiterated that UNSOS, which has been actively supporting Somalia in enhancing the capabilities of the security forces, remains committed in assessing and exploring strategies to improve efficiency and effectiveness in assisting the African Union (AU) and SSF transition process.

The meeting was attended by representatives from the AU Commission, ATMIS, ATMIS troop contributing countries, the UN in Somalia, and the Somali government, including the SSF. Enditem
