ROME, April 25 (Xinhua) -- Italy marked the 79th anniversary of its liberation from fascism on Thursday with pomp and circumstance, and tighter security.
The celebrations included the traditional laying of a laurel wreath at the Altar of the Fatherland in Rome's Piazza Venezia by President Sergio Mattarella.
Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and the presidents of both chambers of the Parliament and various other dignitaries were also on hand for the wreath-laying.
Events to mark the Liberation Day also took place in other cities across the country, including the financial and fashion hub Milan, Florence, the canal city of Venice, and Naples.
All the events took place amid heightened security. Enditem
