ISTANBUL, April 26 (Xinhua) -- A Turkish court here on Friday sentenced Ahlam Albashir, a Syrian national, to life in prison for placing a bomb in Istanbul's bustling street in 2022, killing six people, local media reported.

The perpetrator was sentenced to seven counts of aggravated life imprisonment in total and an additional 1,794 years in prison, according to the NTV broadcaster.

Albashir earlier confessed that she received the attack order from the outlawed Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) and its offspring in Syria, the People's Protection Units (YPG), both listed as terror organizations by Ankara.

On Nov. 13, 2022, an explosion rocked the bustling Istiklal Avenue, crowded with tourists, on the European side of Istanbul, leading to six fatalities and around 100 injuries.

The PKK, listed as a terrorist organization by Türkiye, the United States, and the European Union, has rebelled against the Turkish government for more than three decades. Enditem
