KHARTOUM, April 27 (Xinhua) -- The Sudanese army on Saturday shot down 3 drones flying near a military air base in Merowe city in northern Sudan, according to an army statement.

"At 4 a.m. (0200 GMT), the enemy forces targeted Merowe Airport with three drones," the 19th Infantry Division of the Sudanese army in Merowe city said in a statement.

"The ground anti-aircraft missiles successfully shot down the three drones without loss of life or equipment," it added, stressing that the army was fully prepared to deal with any foreign objects in the skies of Merowe and the northern state as a whole.

The statement did not provide further details.

Merowe city, located approximately 350 km north of the capital Khartoum, holds strategic significance due to the presence of both military and civilian airports. Enditem
