BEIRUT, April 28 (Xinhua) -- Hezbollah announced that it launched on Sunday at dawn an attack with Katyusha rockets on several Israeli settlements.

Hezbollah said in a statement that "in response to the Israeli enemy's attacks on southern villages and civilian homes, especially the villages of Qaouzah, Markaba and the town of Sarbin, the fighters of the Islamic Resistance bombed the Meron settlement and the surrounding settlements with dozens of Katyusha rockets."

A Lebanese military source told Xinhua that they detected the launching of about 40 surface-to-surface missiles toward northern Israel, some of which were intercepted by Israeli Iron Dome missiles, with several ones exploding above the village of the southeast village of Mays al-Jabal.

The sources, who spoke anonymously, said that Israeli warplanes carried out three raids earlier on Sunday on three towns and villages in the eastern and central sectors, while Israeli artillery bombed nine border towns near the border region with about 25 shells.

Tensions along the Lebanon-Israel border escalated on Oct. 8, 2023, following a barrage of rockets launched by the Lebanese armed group Hezbollah toward Israel in solidarity with Hamas' attack on Israel the day before. Israel then retaliated by firing heavy artillery toward southeastern Lebanon. Enditem
