TOKYO -- China has lodged solemn representations to Japan over its moves of infringement and provocation regarding the Diaoyu Islands, the spokesperson of the Chinese embassy in Japan said on Sunday.

The China Coast Guard vessels have taken law enforcement measures to protect their rights in accordance with the law, said the spokesperson. (Japan-China-Diaoyu Islands)

ISLAMABAD -- Pakistani Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar was designated on Sunday as the deputy prime minister, a notification of Pakistani's cabinet division said.

GAZA -- The Palestinian death toll in the Gaza Strip from ongoing Israeli attacks has risen to 34,454, the Hamas-run Health Ministry said on Sunday.

The ministry said in a press statement that the Israeli army killed 66 Palestinians and wounded 138 others during the past 24 hours, bringing the total death toll to 34,454 and injuries to 77,575, since the Israel-Hamas conflict broke out on Oct. 7, 2023. (Gaza-Death Toll-Israel-Ceasefire)

MOGADISHU -- The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) said on Sunday that about 88,000 people were internally displaced in Somalia in the first three months of 2024.

The UNHCR said the displacement was mainly caused by conflict or insecurity and the long-term effects of flooding, which occurred between October and December 2023. (UNHCR-Somalia-Displacement) Enditem
