YANGON, April 29 (Xinhua) -- Seven towns of Myanmar have experienced the hottest April day in decades on Sunday, the country's Department of Meteorology and Hydrology reported on Monday.

Chauk, a town in central Myanmar's Magway Region, recorded the highest-ever April temperature at 48.2 degrees Celsius on Sunday in the past 56 years for the month of April, the weather bureau said.

In addition to Chauk, the towns of Nyaung-U, Sagaing, Tada-U, Taungdwingyi, Mandalay and Zaungtu have also seen the hottest day for April on Sunday, the weather agency said.

According to meteorological reports, many regions across the country have also experienced high temperatures, surpassing 40 degrees Celsius in many areas.

For April 28 and 29, U Hla Tun, a director from Myanmar's Department of Meteorology and Hydrology, has already forecast that temperatures are likely to rise in central Myanmar and the Delta region on these days.

In Myanmar, April and May are typically the hottest months as the temperature spikes before monsoon season begins. Enditem
