BANGKOK, April 29 (Xinhua) -- Thailand is expected to swelter in continued extreme heat in the next three days, with temperatures in the upper part of the Southeast Asian country reaching as high as 44 degrees Celsius, the Thai Meteorological Department (TMD) said on Monday.

People are advised to take care of their health due to the extremely hot weather and avoid working or staying under the sun for a long period of time, the TMD warned in a statement.

Scorching temperatures drove Thai electricity consumption to a record high of 36,356 megawatts last Saturday night, breaking the previous six records set this month, data from the Ministry of Energy showed.

According to the Ministry of Public Health, at least 30 people across the kingdom died of heat stroke in March and April alone this year, an alarming rise compared to 37 heat-related deaths in the whole of 2023. Enditem
