GABORONE, April 29 (Xinhua) -- Seven South African nationals were killed in a traffic accident along A2 Road in Botswana on Sunday afternoon, according to a press statement issued on Monday by the Botswana Police Service (BPS).

A Range Rover with four passengers and a Toyota Hiace minibus with 14 South African citizens on board collided in the Southern District of Botswana in Ranaka Village, about 77 km from Botswana's capital of Gaborone, the statement said.

"The seven South African citizens -- five females and two males aged between 37 and 72 -- were certified dead, while the rest of the passengers -- four females and three males -- were admitted to the hospital with different injuries," said Dipheko Motube, public relations officer of the BPS.

All four Batswana nationals from the Range Rover, aged between nine and 39, were admitted to the hospital with serious injuries.

The statement stated that both drivers survived with minor injuries, that the South African nationals had been to Botswana for worship, and that the accident occurred on their way back to South Africa.

Motube further reported that an investigation is ongoing to determine the cause of the accident. Enditem
