ADEN, Yemen, April 29 (Xinhua) -- At least six soldiers from Yemen's internationally recognized government were killed and a dozen others injured in a roadside bomb explosion on Monday in the southern province of Abyan, a military official said.

The incident occurred in the Mudiyah district of Abyan when vehicles from a military convoy triggered an explosive device planted by militants associated with the al-Qaeda terrorist group, said the official, who spoke on condition of anonymity.

Two military vehicles were destroyed in the powerful blast, the official said, adding that the wounded soldiers were rushed to a nearby military hospital for emergency treatment.

No group has immediately claimed responsibility for the attack. However, the source said that al-Qaeda militants had carried out similar roadside bombings and hit-and-run attacks in the region over the past few months.

Situated along Yemen's southern coastline, Abyan province has been embroiled in conflicts between al-Qaeda and Yemeni government forces. Enditem
