Japan's unemployment rate unchanged at 2.6 pct in March

TOKYO, April 30 (Xinhua) -- Japan's unemployment rate in March was unchanged from the previous month at 2.6 percent, government data showed Tuesday.

According to the internal affairs ministry, the number of unemployed stood at a seasonally adjusted 1.82 million people, among which 790,000 voluntarily left their jobs, up 2.6 percent from February, and 460,000 were dismissed, up 4.5 percent.

For fiscal 2023 that ended in March, Japan's unemployment rate stood at 2.6 percent, also unchanged from the previous fiscal year.

An average of 1.78 million people were unemployed in fiscal 2023, of whom 1.03 million were men, down 30,000 from the previous fiscal year, and 750,000 were women, up by 30,000, data showed.

The number of women in employment jumped by 270,000 to 30.59 million, the highest total since comparable data became available in 1953, according to the ministry. Enditem
