Indian authorities issue red alert amid severe heat wave

NEW DELHI, April 30 (Xinhua) -- A severe heat wave is set to scorch parts of India, with eastern states like Odisha, Bihar, and West Bengal along with the southern state of Andhra Pradesh facing red alerts from the India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Tuesday.

Southern states like Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, and the eastern state of Jharkhand are on orange alerts.

Temperatures are already hitting 41-45 degrees Celsius in parts of India, prompting warnings to avoid outdoor activities between 11:00 and 15:00. Enditem
