KUALA LUMPUR, April 30 (Xinhua) -- Malaysia's stock exchange said Tuesday it has reported higher profit in the first quarter due to higher revenue.

Bursa Malaysia said in a bourse filing that its net profit for the first quarter jumped 33.57 percent year on year to 75.03 million ringgit (15.73 million U.S. dollars).

Its quarterly revenue also increased by 19.61 percent year on year to 187.2 million ringgit.

"Barring any unforeseen circumstances, the exchange is cautiously optimistic in meeting all five headline key performance indicators for the financial year ending 2024," Bursa Malaysia Chief Executive Officer Muhamad Umar Swift said.

"While key economic indicators are pointing towards a brighter outlook for the Malaysian economy, the ongoing global and local developments will continue to influence the volatility and performance of the securities and derivatives markets," he added.

He also said the exchange has been working closely with other regulators to ensure market efficiency and improved market accessibility and liquidity to support participants during this period. (1 ringgit equals 0.21 U.S. dollar) Enditem
