VLADIVOSTOK, May 1 (Xinhua) -- Seventeen country houses were burnt down in Russia's Far East with no casualties reported, the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations said Wednesday.

The blaze, which swept through an area of 10,000 square meters in Ulan-Ude city, captial city of the Republic of Buryatia, has been put out, the ministry said, adding that 12 of the 17 houses were "empty buildings."

Head of Buryatia Alexey Tsydenov identified a damaged power line as a potential cause of the fire.

With strong wind, the fire spread up to 28 meters per second in certain areas. Enditem
