LONDON, May 1 (Xinhua) -- World No. 1 Ronnie O'Sullivan was knocked out of the Snooker World Championship as he lost to Stuart Bingham 13-10 on Wednesday.

The seven-time world champion reached the quarterfinals for a record-extending 22nd time after seeing off Ryan Day 13-7 in Sheffield on Monday. But his hope of winning the world championship title for a record-breaking eighth time was ended after a gruelling quarterfinal as the 2015 world champion Bingham took five out of the last six frames.

The Rocket will also lose the world No. 1 ranking which he had held since April 2022 while Mark Allen will top the list for the first time.

Meanwhile, world No. 2 Judd Trump also failed to reach the semifinals as the 2019 world champion was beaten by qualifier Jak Jones 13-9.

Jones reached the quarterfinals last year as he made his first appearance at the World Championship. The 30-year-old then strode one step further in his second visit at Crucible to reach his second ranking event semifinal in his career.

The other semifinal will be played between Kyren Wilson and David Gilbert. Enditem
