MEXICO CITY, May 1 (Xinhua) -- Reigning Liga MX champions Club America could be without Uruguayan international defender Sebastian Caceres for the rest of the 2024 Clausura season because of a knee injury.

The 24-year-old was forced off early in America's 2-1 away loss to Pachuca in the CONCACAF Champions Cup on Tuesday. Further scans on Thursday will determine the extent of the damage, America said in a statement.

"We can report that our player, Sebastian Caceres, has a medial meniscus injury in his left knee, which will be evaluated tomorrow," America said.

Caceres has made 135 appearances across all competitions since joining America from Liverpool Montevideo in 2020.

America finished top of this year's Liga MX Clausura standings with 35 points from 17 outings. They will meet a yet-to-be-determined opponent in the quarterfinals, to be played over two legs on May 8 and 11. Enditem
