Bangladesh's July-April remittances total 19 bln USD

DHAKA, May 2 (Xinhua) -- Remittances from millions of non-resident Bangladeshis in July-April period of the current fiscal year 2023-2024 ending next month totaled 19 billion U.S. dollars, a central bank official said Thursday.

Quoting provisional Bangladesh Bank (BB) data, the official, who asked not to be named, told Xinhua, "Expatriate Bangladeshis remitted home around 19.12 billion U.S. dollars in July-April, around 8 percent higher than the same period a year ago."

The central bank official said Bangladeshis in April remitted home 2.04 billion dollars, which was around 21 percent higher than that in the same month a year earlier.

The inflow of remittances from some 10 million Bangladeshis living and working in over 100 countries and regions, in the last 2022-23 fiscal year amounted to 21.61 billion dollars.

The inflow remittance is one of the key sources of foreign exchange for Bangladesh and most of the remittances come from the Gulf countries. Enditem
