CHICAGO, May 2 (Xinhua) -- Ford Motor Co. reported Thursday that it sold 179,588 vehicles in the United States in April, down 2.4 percent year on year.

The U.S. automaker attributes the decline in sales to sales drop of F-Series trucks, Broncos and other SUVs, and rising interest rates.

Nevertheless, Ford hybrid vehicles continues to accelerate, with U.S. sales reaching 17,997 in April, an 60-percent increase year on year and a new monthly record.

Sales of the new F-150 PowerBoost Hybrid set a new monthly record in April by growing 93.6 percent, making F-150 Hybrid America's top-selling full-size hybrid pickup. F-150 Hybrid represented 22 percent of F-150 trucks.

Generally, Ford truck and van sales rose 2 percent in April year on year, though F-Series trucks were down 7.2 percent; super duty sales rose 2.9 percent; heavy trucks fell 28 percent; and SUV sales dropped 9.8 percent.

As for other automakers, Honda Motor Co. Ltd. U.S. sales were flat, Hyundai Motor Co Ltd. U.S. sales went down 3 percent; and Subaru Corp. sales rose 9.5 percent, according the Detroit News on Thursday. Enditem
