JERUSALEM, May 5 (Xinhua) -- Elbit Systems, an Israeli defense technology company, announced on Sunday that it was awarded a 37-million-U.S. dollar contract to supply the U.S. army with active protection systems for armored fighting vehicles.

The company said in a statement that it will equip the U.S. army's Bradley M2A4E1 infantry fighting vehicles with its Iron Fist Active Protection Systems over a period of 24 months.

The system provides enhanced protection against anti-tank threats while increasing the survivability of the vehicles.

With 360-degree protection, it shields armored fighting vehicles from various threats, such as anti-tank rockets and missiles, unmanned aerial systems, and loitering threats in both open fields and complex urban environments.

The system features advanced detection technologies, threat classification capabilities, electronic disruptors, and interception measures, suiting various combat scenarios.

According to Elbit, interception is executed without endangering operators or causing harm to the defended vehicles by utilizing a blast interceptor mechanism that prevents the initiation of the threat's warhead. Enditem
