PARIS -- China regards Europe as an important dimension in its major-country diplomacy with Chinese characteristics and an important partner on its path toward Chinese modernization, Chinese President Xi Jinping said here Monday.

DAMASCUS -- Syrian President Bashar al-Assad met with the chairman of the Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF) in Iraq, Falih al-Fayyadh, in the capital Damascus on Monday to discuss strengthening cooperation in combating terrorism and border control, according to the state news agency SANA.

BEIRUT -- Hezbollah said Monday that the Islamic Resistance, its military wing, carried out an airstrike on the Israeli soldiers stationed at the Al-Motella settlement, resulting in numerous deaths and injuries.

BERLIN -- The German ambassador to Russia has been recalled for consultations after Berlin accused Moscow of cyberattacks.
