BUENOS AIRES, May 6 (Xinhua) -- River Plate could sign highly rated Uruguayan forward Luciano Rodriguez, his agent said on Monday.

Rodriguez is contracted to Liverpool Montevideo until December 2027 but the Uruguayan club is understood to be open to offers for the 20-year-old.

"River's interest is real. We're going to meet with the club's board and see what can be done," player agent Mauricio Machado told Radio Continental.

"I see it as viable because River are a great club in South America and Luciano is somebody that interests them."

Machado added that the Argentine giants faced competition for Rodriguez's signature from clubs in Spain, Italy and Brazil.

According to Machado, Spain's Girona is the only club to have presented a formal offer for the senior Uruguay international.

Rodriguez rose to prominence last year when he formed part of the Uruguay team that won the FIFA U20 World Cup in Argentina. The attacker scored the winning goal in the final against Italy in La Plata.

He has been capped twice for Uruguay's national team, having made his international debut in a 1-1 draw against Pais Vasco in March. Enditem
