KABUL, May 7 (Xinhua) -- Afghan and Turkmen companies signed memorandums of understanding (MoUs) and contracts worth over 200 million U.S. dollars, state-run Bakhtar News Agency reported Monday.

The signing of two MoUs and over 10 contracts was overseen by the Acting Minister of Commerce and Industry of Afghanistan, the governor of the western Afghan Province of Herat, and chairman of the union of tradesmen and industrialists of Turkmenistan in Herat, Bakhtar stated.

The MoUs and contracts were inked for the development of economic and trade relations between the two countries, the source said, adding that according to the contracts and MoUs, the Afghan side will export marble, steel bars, paint, and food to Turkmenistan.

The Afghan caretaker government has been calling upon local and foreign companies to invest in the war-ravaged country and enhance trade and economic relations with the regional nations. Enditem
