Laos to strengthen animal health systems, reduce disease threat

VIENTIANE, May 7 (Xinhua) -- Lao authorities plan to introduce strengthened animal health systems to reduce the risks and impacts of disease on livestock, thus bolstering the husbandry industry and food security.

Laos' Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, in cooperation with the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), unveiled two significant projects aimed at strengthening animal health systems in Laos, Lao News Agency report said on Tuesday.

Speaking at the launch of the projects on May 3, Deputy Director General of the Department of Livestock and Fisheries under the Lao Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry Souphavanh Keovilay said the cooperation, technical expertise and know-how provided by the FAO will lead to detailed work plans and activities for the benefit of livestock, the environment, and communities in Laos.
