TRIPOLI, May 7 (Xinhua) -- The Libyan and Italian governments on Tuesday signed several memorandums of understanding (MoUs) about education, healthcare and sports.

The MoUs were signed when the Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni visited Libya, where she met with her counterpart Abdul-Hamed Dbeibah in the capital Tripoli.

"During the meeting, aspects of cooperation between the two countries were discussed in the fields of energy, economy, scientific research, healthcare, and other common issues," said a statement issued by the Libyan government.

The two prime ministers discussed political, security and economic issues, stressing the need to support the United Nations' efforts to hold presidential and parliamentary elections in Libya, as well as efforts made by the two countries against illegal migration, the statement added.

The two sides agreed to hold the Italian-Libyan Economic Forum later in October in Tripoli to support the private sector in both countries, according to the statement. Enditem
