RIO DE JANEIRO, May 7 (Xinhua) -- Brazil's Cruzeiro boosted their hopes of reaching the Copa Sudamericana knockout stage with a 3-0 away win over Colombian side Alianza FC on Wednesday.
Former Real Madrid midfielder Lucas Silva opened the scoring on the stroke of halftime before Arthur and Rafael Elias added second-half goals at the Armando Maestre stadium in the northern Colombian city of Valledupar.
Cruzeiro are now second in Group B with six points from four games, a point behind Ecuador's Universidad Catolica. Alianza are last in the four-team group with just one point so far.
In Paraguayan capital Asuncion, Brazil's Corinthians struck two late goals to clinch a 2-0 win over local side Club Nacional.
Yuri Alberto put the visitors ahead with a 75th-minute strike and Matheuzinho doubled the lead in the sixth minute of stoppage time at the Defensores del Chaco stadium.
Corinthians are now second in Group F with seven points, six points ahead of fourth-placed Nacional.
In other Copa Sudamericana fixtures on Wednesday, Racing Montevideo won 2-1 at home to Argentinos Juniors, Independiente Medellin romped to a 5-1 victory at Cesar Vallejo, Sportivo Ameliano prevailed 2-1 at home to Danubio and Always Ready cruised to a 3-1 home win over Defensa y Justicia. Enditem
