TOKYO -- Japan logged a record current account surplus of 25.34 trillion yen (about 163 billion U.S. dollars) in fiscal year 2023, said a government report on Friday.

The overall surplus in the current account, the broadest measure of the country's overseas trade and investment flows, marked a roughly 2.8-fold increase from the previous fiscal year, supported by record foreign investment returns and a sharp fall in its trade deficit, according to the preliminary report by the Finance Ministry. NEW DELHI -- Indian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Randir Jaiswal on Friday confirmed that all Indian troops previously stationed across three platforms in the Maldives have been redeployed back to India and replaced by technical civilian personnel.

Maldivian President Mohamed Muizzu pledged to withdraw all foreign troops after assuming office in November 2023. India agreed to withdraw its military personnel from the Maldives by May 10 after a series of constructive meetings and dialogues between the two countries. (India-Maldives-Withdrawal)

ISLAMABAD -- Remittances sent by overseas Pakistani workers increased by 27.9 percent in April 2024 on a year-on-year basis, the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) said on Thursday.

The workers' remittances recorded an inflow of 2.8119 billion U.S. dollars in April as compared to 2.1983 billion dollars recorded in the same month of the previous year. (Pakistan-Remittance)

KUALA LUMPUR -- Malaysia's manufacturing sales value expanded by 1.4 percent year on year to 158.4 billion ringgit (33.42 billion U.S. dollars) in March, official data showed Friday.

The Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM) said in a statement that the rise was primarily driven by the non-metallic mineral products, basic metal and fabricated metal products (9.6 percent); wood, furniture, paper products and printing (3.4 percent); and electrical and electronics products (2.3 percent) sub-sectors.
