JAKARTA, May 13 (Xinhua) -- The number of fatalities of the lava floods in Indonesia's West Sumatra province rose to 37 with 17 others missing, a senior official of the local disaster agency told Xinhua on Monday.

Fajar Sukma, head of emergency unit of disaster management and mitigation agency of West Sumatra province, said the search and rescue operation for the missing people has resumed.

Soldiers, policemen, the personnel of the disaster agency and the search and rescue office were involved in the search and rescue mission, he added.

Muharrindo Idwan, a senior press officer at the provincial disaster management and mitigation agency, said an information center has been established in Tanah Datar regency to make the information about the floods more valid.

Rains on Saturday night had swept away cold lava from Marapi volcano and Singgalang volcano, resulting in cold lava floods that hit the regencies of Tanah Datar, Agam and Pariaman, and Padang Panjang town.

Earlier media reports put the death toll at 34. Enditem
